Just Old Wives' Tales Or Heartburn Natural Remedies? By Jack Ritchies Some of grandma's old fashioned homespun commonsense has survived to this day and many of her heartburn natural remedies have stood the test of time. And now many folk are foresaking the modern antacids and retreating into the old fashioned pantry to try some of the ancient remedies for heartburn and indigestion.
Before discussing the antidote it might be as well to quantify the various causes of heartburn and indigestion which are not often disputed. There's little doubt that the prevalence of heartburn is due to a western life-style diet. Many folk have become used to three king-sized main meals containing a liberal supply of fatty and spicy foods; often lubricated with a copious supply of alcohol and/or fizzy drinks laced with caffeine followed by two or three cups of coffee. Regrettably, some of our favorite foods are the ones we really should ignore. Add to these the twin evils of excessive smoking and obesity and there is little wonder that the Internet is awash with people of all nationalities seeking heartburn natural remedies.
It seems to be incontrovertible that the food we eat and a general lack of exercise contribute in no small degree to heartburn, so what's the answer? It seems obvious we should quit popping pills and adjust our way of living. Nevertheless, that's not what most people want to hear; therefore the search for a selection of heartburn natural remedies. Preferably those that allow us to eat and drink what we want and when we want.
Indigestion and heartburn natural remedies fall neatly into two distinct areas; those that need no medication of any kind as opposed to the lotions and potions classed by some as just old wives' tales.
With a bit of willpower and some discipline you can be a healthier person by paying some attention to what you eat and when. For instance you can choose to have more, but smaller, meals spread throughout the day rather than gorging yourself three times daily. And, at the very least, if you cannot in the first instance do without spicy, fatty foods and caffeine, try to cut down quite drastically. Add to this a spot of walking for just 15 minutes five

times weekly and you'll be well on your way to a much healthier lifestyle and, all the more so, if you're able to miss out tobacco. Heartburn and indigestion will be less of a problem once you've made these changes and, furthermore, a little exercise will reduce any stress levels. Also, many people suggest that eating slowly and counting the number of times each mouthful is chewed will significantly improve digestion.
It's a pity you can only go no further back than your grandparents because they and their forebears had not heard of prescription drugs. Many of the old-fashioned remedies sound rather bizzare to us but a few have been around for an awful long time and maybe worth a go.
One such is Slippery Elm Tea - first used by Native American Indians - which is an excellent digestive pick-me-up and eases any heartburn feelings. Another herbal remedy is licorice, especially DGL licorice (De-Glycyrrhizinated Licorice) which can be chewed and has a quite pleasant taste. There are also a further selection of ingredients such as fennel seeds, zinc and aniseed; not forgetting clove water, chamomile, cinnamon and cumin. One of more popular herbal healers is honey which is naturally anti-inflammatory and will quickly settle an upset stomach when combined with ginger in a cup of warm water.
Some of the more exotic heartburn natural remedies from different countries include an African heartburn remedy from the Congo, tangawisi. Tangawisi is a mixture of crushed ginger with sap from the mango tree. Or perhaps a bottle of mustard from France; said to have been a favourite of the early Spanish Conquistadors.
Acupuncture and acupressure have been popular in China for almost 3,000 years although not all the medical fraternity are yet convinced that these treatments serve any useful purpose although some professionals in the western world now recommend them.
It's possible you might have a quiet chuckle at some of these remedies and conclude that you'd have to be desperate to consider some of them. On the other hand, if you really were desperate, it's likely you might just try any one of heartburn natural remedies.

</ul> Creating Your Acid Reflux Diet <p>There is a significant amount of debate going on between researchers and other professionals as to whether certain foods can cause heartburn. But if you are like me, there are certain foods that will trigger heartburn.</p>
<p>Over the last couple of decades I've learned what my food triggers are, and what foods are safe for me to eat. </ul> Living Well with GERD: Watch What You Eat <p>One of the leading triggers of heartburn is the food we eat. Since we all have to eat, we need ways to prevent food from causing heartburn. This involves making wise food choices.</p>
<p>There are <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://heartburn.about.com/od/goodfoodsbadfoods/a/foodscausereflx.htm">foods you should avoid if you suffer from heartburn</a>. <p>Everyone is different; what may be a heartburn trigger for someone else may be safe for you to eat, and what others can eat with no problems will cause you a lot of discomfort. For this reason it is important that you keep a food diary to determine which foods are problematic for you.</p>

</ul> What Do You Wish Others Understood About GERD? <p>What type of reaction have you gotten when you told someone you have GERD or acid reflux disease? Some of you have doubtless had someone, who may suffer from heartburn once a year, try to tell you they understand what you are experiencing. Or worse still, having someone tell you it's no big deal, pop an antacid and you'll be fine.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, having a flare up with our GERD isn't just annoying. It can have a big impact on our lives. "Blakelylaw" describes it well:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>"Those at a distance who are not familiar with the disease have no idea how debilitating a major attack can be and that it can take a few days for your body to recuperate afterwards & get back to normal."</strong></p>
<p>There are many aspects about living with GERD that non-sufferers don't understand. We often have to educate those around us.</p>
<p>So, <a href="http://heartburn.about.com/u/ua/gerdacidrefluxdisease/What-Do-You-Think-Family-Friends-Should-Know-About-Gerd.htm" target="_blank">what do you wish others knew about living with GERD</a>. Traveling has many joys, but it can also be tough, particularly for people with heartburn. Unusual foods, eating on the run, and the overindulgence that often goes hand in hand with being on vacation can all contribute to a flare up of acid reflux disease. Combine that with the stress of jet lag and sleeping in unfamiliar surroundings, and you've got a recipe for putting the burn back into heartburn. However, by <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://heartburn.about.com/od/dailylife/a/travel-hrtburn.htm">taking a few precautions when you travel</a>, you can have the vacation you dreamed of and leave your heartburn symptoms behind.</p> Top GERD Treatments - Fundoplication Surgery <p>Fundoplication is the standard surgical treatment for GERD.
